Class Recap - 9/29/2010
So we still want find what is funny and can make all of us laugh. We have some problems with this question because for group wich contain people from different countries it is really difficult. For example if you don't know some american culture and traditions or stereotypes you can't understand why it is happy. I also didn't unerstand some jokes in last movie that we watched( it was about students life in dermatoty and some troublemakers). But I think Greer will find some movie that will be funny for all of us.

i think cultural humor is around every countries.
ReplyDeleteSome humorous jokes from the US might be nothing funny to us as foreigners because of its cultural meaning. However, when we get to know better about other countries's culture, we can understand better about their inside jokes.
It seems that different experiences make different responses. We feel something stupid when we watch American humor. However, there is no standard to judge whether some countries' culture is stupid or smart. Just...unknown or unexperienced things make us to feel stupid. Learning and having experience about something should be first, I think. Therefore, learning strange culture is interesting.
ReplyDeleteI think humor is different meaning with people who has different personality and different culture. I am a optimistic girl, lots of jokes can make me want to laugh. But I prefer the joke from life more than making. Some action by making just look like stupid, I just feel weird.
ReplyDeletei agree with you. some video i think not funny at all but so many people laughing.Some video that i think is so funny, but others are laughing. I think is all because of our culture are different because we come form different conuntry. i do not like something stupid, i do only like something that realy funny.
ReplyDeletethe videos that we watched on friday were funny, but some of them weren't funny becouse i can get the idea of funny in some of the video. i think the humor is different between different countries and people. Therefore, i think if someone understand my humorous, then we might be good friend.
ReplyDeleteI think that we have different point of humor, so that is why some my peers didn't feel funny while watching last movie(sorry I forgot the name of movie). Also, in YouTube video, we showed different opinions to others because of culture difference. If we learn about other culture, we would be funny with other countries' funny video. -soungmin ahn-
ReplyDeleteI think different culture have different joke, that why sometimes we can't laugh at American joke. On the another hand, funny thing is the same. Such as last Friday when I play my found funny video(funny thing about water), almost all of people laugh, at least one moment. It's talk about many moments people make a fool of oneself in front of others.In my opinion, even though we have different joke, happy is not in one country, or one language.
ReplyDeleteDifferent countries have different funny point. Actually when we watched You Tube in this class, it is difficult that student who showed us funny video get everyone's smile. I think unexpected happening makes almost students laugh.
ReplyDeleteI think that our culture and personality define what make us laugh or not. However, I think there is another important point which can influence our humour, this is the education from our parents. For example, since my childhood until now, my father has always shown to me and my brother american comedies(such as Austin Powers, and so on). So I really enjoy watching american movies, with its too much and stupid humour. I love american humour, I grew up with that. However, I don't find french humour funny, because it's too intelectual, and I think the best humour is stupid humour, because we don't have to think, everybody can understand.
ReplyDeletebefore the class, i did not know that humor is related with each country's culture, but after watching the movie, i realized it is because it was not funny at all; i just felt that Greer pushed us to laugh. i think culture is the biggest thing than i expected. From American Culture class, i will be more curious about culture.
ReplyDeleteyes. it is truth. A lot of things we have no feeling because we don't understand the meaning. It is really difficult. some of problem are taling about tranditional culture. we should konw first.
