Here are the definitions of the word hero that we discussed in class today:
1. A man (or woman) of exceptional courage or ability, admired for his (or her) brave deeds and noble qualities.
2. A sympathetic character who overcomes a series of increasingly difficult, seemingly insurmountable obstacles and achieves a compelling desire.
From these comments and definitions, as well as from what we talked about earlier today, it seems to me that there are a variety of reasons why we could admire people and consider them heroes.
Maybe a hero is someone who has given a lot of support, whether emotional, financial, or otherwise (for example, see Sophia's, Tautis', and Cici's remarks above). Maybe a hero is someone who faced many challenges and made a lot of personal sacrifices for the sake of some greater good (for example, Martin Luther King, Jr. or Abraham Lincoln).
Using the 'Comment' function on this post, please write a complete paragraph of least 5-7 sentences describing a person or people that you admire. Be sure to share your ideas about what makes that person (or people) so special and about why you admire him or her (or them) so much. ... In other words, answer the question: Who is YOUR hero, and why?
** BONUS: Click here to read a short article I wrote several years ago about one of my heroes, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar.
My hero is my mother. She is always supporting me whatever I got big problems. Sometimes we argue each other seriously. when I got problem about my future, she gave me a lot of advise and always listened my talk. Then, I could solve my problem. She never give up on me, I was helped every day by her favor.
ReplyDeletehmmmm...I thinkmy hero would be my dad because he works so hard to let me study overseas in USA. He gives me a perfect life and family. Moreover, because of his work is in China, he rarely comes back home. I couldn't go see him either cuz im in USA. Therefore, we only meet about twice a year. But I know that he works very hard on the other side of the world to give our family a perfect life. So my dad is my hero.

My hero is my Great Grand Father. Because at only 9 years old, he went to Paris by himself from Italy to escape poverty. And then, later, when he was 17 years old he fought at France during the WW1. In 2008, he died at 112 years old, and he was the last "poilu" (french soldiers in 1914-1918 war). So he has state funeral. Every french could see on the TV his funeral, it was a big event. Lazare Ponticelli is a hero in France, he symbolizes the french soldiers during the WW1. He was a strong man, it's my hero.

ReplyDeleteMy hero is Marilyn Manson. I think he's a genius man. His art is full of sense, and it's unique. He doesn't care about others people opinion, just makes everything he wants. He isn't afraid to show the real human nature. His music is magic, because it can help to relax or cheer up, and pictures inspire. By the way his art changed my world view, it also helps me to never give up. So, he's my hero.
ReplyDeleteI admire a man who is called “The Motivator.”
ReplyDeleteHe is the author of "The Motivator" and actually has motivated me a lot of time. He lost his right hand in his military service days and he has kept on an artificial arm for 30 years. However he made successful performance as a former vice president of the biggest mobile companiy in Korea, and recently he became the CEO of a new launched cosmetic company. Now, people call him a great commander of marketing, too.
