1. Veronica Lake
2. Lynn Bracken (as played by actor Kim Basinger)
3. The Real Mickey Cohen
4. The "Movie" Mickey Cohen (as played by actor Paul Guilfoyle)
5. The Real Johnny Stompanato & The Real Lana Turner
6. The "Movie" Johnny Stompanato & Lana Turner (as played by actors Paolo Seganti & Brenda Bakke)
7. The Real Rita Hayworth
8. Model Amber Smith (who plays Sue Lefferts in the movie)

I have some questions about it.
ReplyDeleteIs this story real?
Did hookers really took plastic surgery to be seemed as actress at that time?
Was Lana Turner important to the story?
It very nice but complicated movie because of too many characters and something like metaphors...
Hi Michelle- thanks for your post! This story is not directly "real," in the sense that there was not a real person named Edmund Exley (that I know of), or a real person named Jack Vincennes (that I know of), or a real person named Bud White (that I know of). The only real-life people represented in the movie are those I mentioned in class: Mickey Cohen, Lana Turner, Johnny Stompanato, and some of the other gangsters who are killed in the movie. (Many of the newspaper shots, such as those of the murdered gangsters lying in their cars or on the street, are real.)
ReplyDeleteI am not sure whether prostitutes at that time had plastic surgery done to look more like movie stars, but it certainly SEEMS possible/probable that they would have done so. I'll have to do a little bit more research on that and get back to you.
Thank you for Greer gave us this imformation. It is make me more understand that movie. Also this is another kinds of American Cutlture. In the past, I can see those stars is so popular in Ameican. According to movie L.A. Confidential, hooker had changed their face like stars. To me, too many characters in this movie. It is so diffcult to remember people's name. Especially some of them is real name.
