  1. In the Facts about the Death Penalty, I found some interesting things.
First, the number of executions has been highly increased since 1992. Even though it was decreased after 1999, the number is still high. The number in 2010 is 3 times higher comparing to 1991. According to an article what I read recently, the crime rate of U.S. has been decreased since 1992 because U.S. government toughened up the prison sentences after 1991. This data, Number of Executions, seems to demonstrate the insistence of the article.
Second, compare to 1993, the Death Sentencing of 2009 was dropped almost by 1/3(from 295 to 106), but the Number of Executions were increased(from 38 to 52). How should I understand these data?

In case of Korea, we still have death sentencing. However, we are classed as a country abolished death penalty because we do not have any case of execution over 10 years. I am very surprised that U.S. still have executed because I thought people in U.S. have more interested in human right than any other countries.
Indeed, in Korea, we used to use hanging for death penalty. It was shock for me to watch the scene in Dead Man Walking, kill the criminal with electric chair and the victim’s families watch it. I have no idea which way is better, hanging or electric chair…but that let the families watch killing scene is tragedy. I can understand that the victim’s family would never forgive the criminal who killed their family. However, watching of killing criminal would give them more serious trauma than that of losing family member.

  2. Before read this handout, i thought that the United States does not have death penalty. I was surprised about it as Michelle. However, i was wrong. They still do capital punishment for merciless criminals. Even though it have decreased since 1999, the number of death sentencing is still high.

  3. death penalty. it is always big issue in the world. before writing an essay about it in the writing class, of course, i thought that the us does not have this law, but i just hit on Saddam Hussein who used to be a president in Iraq and was killed by death penalty, so found a lot of information about it in america. however i am still wondering why it depends on different states that they have the punishment even though they are the same country. personally, i do not agree with the punishment because as we watched the movie, i felt the character was very poor even though he murdered a child. however, like Hussein, it was right for him to be died. therefore, i would say that depending on what kinds of crimes, criminals have to get death punishment or not.

  4. In the USA, it has way for death penalty that is electric chair. Victim's family can see the situation when criminals are executed by using the chair. I was surprised about it, because in my country, the execution should deal with top secret; people cannot watch it even they are victims. According to this handout, it is in propportion to percentage of race of defendants and victim. I wonder how relate these races.

  5. After reading the handout, I was a little supprise the facts of death penalty. I thought mostly states in USA are without death penalty, but in fact, only 15 states are without the death penalty, the amount of states without death punishment is 20 states less than the amount of states with the death penalty. So I think the death penalty is also a important way to warn people. Then, there are only 56% white people in the race of defendants executed but there are 76% white people in the race of victim in death penalty cases. It means there are a lot of white people were killed by other national people. Because USA is a strong country, there are many people want to live in here, but there are some illegal immigrants, some are poor and lacking of education. When they meet some problem, they are easy to use violence to solve the problem. The white people are the main citizen in USA, the population of white people is higher than others, so they will be easy to attack.

  6. before watch this movie, i think United States is a free country. there is no death penalty. i was a supprise about death penalty. than i get some information about this from internet. three eighths of the states the United States retain the death penalty laws. only 15 states are without the death penalty. I think we should remove the death penalty. That is not fair.if someone is sentenced to death for being wronged
It is very cruel.Just like the movie.

  7. According to movie, I think capital pnishment is not worth to teach people do not do bad things. Another people still do crime in life. They used lethal injectron to kill Matthew, it is not usually capital punishment in China. We used to shoot people when they kill another people. But for now, I heard we start use this way in capital punishment in China.
After I read last hangout that is your gave to us. I suprise death penalty in Ameirica, it is reall happen in life. I just thought fake story in dead man walking, people was killed. The death penalty not happen in real life. Before I came to U.S., I thought they don't kill people who to murder people, the same in HongKong. For now, I know I am wrong. In America, just 15 states without the death penalty. In addition, I need change my mind again. Race of death row inmates said, White people more than Black people in prison. Before I explan, I want to say, I am not a Racist person. But I thought black people more than white people in prison before, maybe black people usually is poor people, especially in U.S. Everything is suprise me, it is different things I thought in U.S.I need know more knowledge to know American Culture, make sure I can know the real America.

  8. Be honest, i dont like death penalty at all. i was so suprised about there are so many stayes with the death penatly, and only 15 states without deth penetly.some people said if someone kills people, he should be deth penatly. but, in my opinion, one plus one equil two, why should we kill two people at once. and some time, if dead man do not have enough proof to prove he is innocent, he will not have the second changce,it is because of the death penatly. i think it should be cancel.
